    Default Hello from Stratford Ontario

Hi all I have been shaving with a safety razor for about a year and recently switched to a Dovo shavette. I have a straight razor and strop kit coming from Whipped dog and plan to learn to hone as well. I tried a straight razor a number of years ago and had bad luck, I have since discovered it was sold to me unhoned and that was the cause of my discomfort. I look forward to enjoying proper straight razor shaving for the first time.

    Welcome aboard,

It's nice to see another member so close. Learn to shave and strop before you learn to hone. I don't know anyone who can hone when they don't know how to shave or strop . It may be possible but unlikely, you'd be much better off just shaving and stripping for at the least a couple months, touching up when needed. In the end all we can offer is advise. It's all up to you! I wish you luck!

Hello and welcome. That is a funny autocorrect error Scott. I think his point is valid. There are a lot of Canadian members as well so there really is no reason to hone for yourself for a while. In country postage is cheap. If you need any shaving pointers feel free to ask for help. There is a good stropping video Razor stropping - Straight Razor Place Library It is not hard to learn to shave well with a straight razor but it does require practice.

You're telling me you never shaved and stripped Shaun? I did it for a couple months and then learned to shave with my clothes on.

If you never said anything I would have never noticed. Too funny. He's going to think I'm a weirdo now.

Hi and welcome, I'm even closer to you. Just so you know, there's a new wet shaving store in Stratford called The Art full Badger. It's right across from the Avon theatre a has some great items if your ever looking for new gear. There's a few of us close, Mcbladescar is in Tillsonburg, and a few others in London.
