Newbie From Grizzly Flats, CA
Howdy Gents!
I'm very new to straight razor shaving... but... I have been wet shaving with DE razors for quite awhile now, and really like the change from multiple bladed plastic cartridges to a single blade... but now I'm wanting to learn another set of skills... how to shave with a straight razor. I hope with time, I can master the art of shaving this way, as I have with the DE razors. I'm sure with all you guys on this SRP forum, that I will learn a lot from many experts, both young and old, who have learned from their experiences with the straight razor...

Hi and welcome. It's going coming from a de as beard direction and lathering etc are already worked out. So now all you need to pick up are stropping and using a straight annd even that will be easier coming from a de. Plenty of information in the library and forums but any questions feel free to ask.

Thanked: 220Welcome. You've already begun learning, as you've been using a DE. Good luck, and I hope your learning curve is a good one.

Thanks fellas!
Hey I've been wondering about a straight razor that I have been looking at to buy... looked it up on several posts here, but can't find much information. It's a Friedrich Schlemper razor, made in Germany... looks almost new, very little marks... if any, on the actual blade (rounded tip) no rust or pits that I can see either. Scales (blue) looks great. I can get this razor for under $50 bucks, with the original box... Question: is this a good quality razor, and is it a good razor to start with?

Probably a decent razor , can't tell without looking at it, but most German razors have good steel and grinds, just make sure to send it out to be honed properly of get with one of the guys in your area to help you like Dave said earlier. Tc

As TC said probably a good razor. Not many dodgy vintage razors. Just make sure you get it pro honed.

Welcome to SRP! I had to look up Grizzly Flats on the map: population 1066, with towns
nearby named Sly Lake, Happy Valley, Fair Play, and Coyoteville. I like the sound of it.
Gotta get there one day. I like the ride up 88 on the way to Markleeville and the Cutthroat
Saloon, with a stop at the Lockeford Meat Company for beef jerky.
Anyway, there's lots of good information here and plenty of folks willing to help out.
Just ask!
Enjoy!

Yeah... I'm south east of Placerville about 20 miles... 62 miles west from South Lake Tahoe, 4000 feet.
Thanks guys for your help... it's greatly appreciated! Once I figure out how to post photos I'll send a few... I wish I had a forum like this when I was learning DE shaving. Would have cut the learning curve a bit... but that's all down the river now... been shaving DE's for a while now and really like it... great shaves... just want to experience the straight razor shave... but still will use the DE razor too...
Thanks fellas
Jim
