Hello from Hudson Valley New York!
Hey folks,
I've been reading the forums for the past month or so as a welcomed distraction; see, I've been laid-off for the 4th time since 2009 effective this week. I was notified before Thanksgiving that this would be my Christmas present! As I grind through the job search thing, I've been looking at getting into straight razor shaving as a new hobby that is kind of a few degrees of separation from my existing ones - I love knives, from pocket to chef to swords. I love traditional archery, with my prized possession being a 1972 Fred Bear Kodiak. I also enjoy and small game hunt with a Marlin Model 81 from the 1940's. So the idea of being able to take something that was made with craftsmanship and use it regularly, as it had been for decades or will be for decades if new, and learning how to maintain it similarly to the items I maintain now is right in my wheelhouse!
I look forward to learning from you guys & will use a small portion of my severance check coming this week to fund my starter razor and strop!
