Default Hello from Santa Cruz, CA

    Hey all,

My name is Mike. I recently started back into wet shaving and using a SR when my wife purchased a wet shave kit from a local hipster men's store.

My previous experience was learning to SR shave from my grampa.

So far it's been a mixed bag. The most frustrating aspect is getting a good lather, which I suspect is a soap issue since the soap that came with the kit is likely cheap. I'm carefully reading your reviews looking for something that will remind me of grampas old shave soap that was a lot like old spice and mental.

The fun part is sharpening. I've been sharpening my own knives since I was a kid and reading the forum and watching the videos on YouTube I've already learned that I have a few bad habits!

At any rate, here I am.

Hello, welome to SRP. You might try Stirling Shave Soap Spice scent, which smells like Old Spice and is easy to lather.

Welcome to the forum. If you have problems post them or PM any mentor. There are so many soaps to choose from these days. I am fond of the old Italian soaps. Tabac, Volobra, Spieck, Tabac just to name some of them. Many of the soaps come in a variety of scents.

    Welcome Mike..
Glad to have you, you'll soon break your bad habits.
I recommend you get yourself some magnification, 60x with lighting is almost a must IMO when bevel setting and honing.

Just be sure to not try and impress somebody by shaving while riding the Giant Dipper on the Boardwalk.
