    Default Felicitations from Philadelphia!

Good morning, all! I realized I originally posted this in the incorrect place, so here it is again...

My name is Glenn and I live in Philadelphia, PA. I had been enjoying shaving with a DE razor for a few years but have been fascinated by straight razor shaving for a long time. On a whim, I recently took the plunge and bought a serviceable straight, watched Lynn's You-Tube video and bought his DVD and am now enjoying the pleasures (in earnest) of the gentlemanly shave!

I then quickly purchased a good strop and 2 nice razors from SRD; a Ralph Aust and Dovo! I've now shaved with both of these and am on my way to having a razor rotation! I also ordered a "Le Luxe" (Barber's Notch, 6/8, in 01 Steel) from Jacob Ray on a whim. (Any information on this maker's work would be welcome!) The acquisition syndrome has begun in earnest!

This site and Imperial Shaving have been great resources for me as I begin, so thanks to all who contribute and work to introduce the uninitiated but interested to "true" shaving. I'm at the sometimes irritating beginning of learning a new skill, but all-in-all, it's a pleasure to be here!

Welcome to SRP, sounds like you are off to a good start!
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

Starting SR Shaving is kind of a, "Congratulations... I'm sorry.", situations!! But, you are in the whirlwind now and with a good start so might as well enjoy the ride!

    Harper,

Hello and welcome to Straight Razor Place. You will find many friends here, and everyone will help you along.

You are starting out with good equipment, and razors honed by Lynn are sweet shavers. They will serve you well as you hone your skill with the straight razor. If I may suggest, try to limit your purchases for the time being, especially on a whim. Your taste will change as you explore the straight razor world, and perhaps six months from now, you might regret having bought everything in sight. This can be costly, and frustrating.

A little at a time. Have patience. And be a good listener.
