Thanked: 1Hi, from Ireland
Hello,
Gurune a French expat in Ireland.
Following your lead (and I guess my granddad) I tried myself at shaving with a straight razor.
I have to say that all the information in this forum was invaluable.
it all started by me buying the wrong heads for the old Gillette, and tried to think about a more reliable shaving gears.
and here I am now, after buying a Spartacus Thiers issard (2nd hand), I used it on my face.
the result was OK, with no cuts, I have to admit I made some manual touch up with the Gillette.
but so far so good. I just have to pass that learning curve.
being a bit of a project man, I also made my own strop and applied myself at the honing process.
it probably does not help to try everything at once (but I find it hard to resist)
I will also post on the razor page the other razor I acquired, searching for it I only found one reference razor from the same maker (incidentally in this forum)
Thank you again

Welcome to Straight Razor Place. Sounds like your edge was lacking a bit but, at the same time, you got a shave. Sounds like my first attempt and a lot of straight shavers will follow up with a single or double edge safety on occasion.
France to Ireland. Not to pry but is your ancestry Celtic?Bob

Thank you all for you warm welcome
I have to admit that My DNA is a bit of a melting pot, but there is definitely a good portion of "Breton" (Bretanny) blood in my making.
probably one of the reason why the razor could not cut through the skin.
regarding Ireland, what can I say, I could not resist the fair lady.
