    Default Greetings from California!

Hi all, so happy to have this resource. I have been DE shaving for the last 5 years, but am fascinated by straight shaving. It looks like a way to elevate the skill of shaving, and I love things that require skill and persistence. I am also a long distance trail runner and guitarist.

I have yet to purchase my first straight, but think I will be doing so in the very near future. My wife is onboard and supportive, she recently bought Lynn's DVD for me, which should be arriving any day now.

Quick questions if anyone cares to comment.

    1. Any recommendations as to whether I should go full hollow or half hollow for my first straight? Right now I shave with my Grandpa's '54 Gillette SS (very mild) and an IKON Slant (a little more aggressive).

    2. Should I buy a cheaper first strop? I have heard that newbies like me tend to nick the strop a lot when they first start.

Also, just a note about my username. I realize MajesticShaver can send a bit pretentious, but it is not meant to be. Before my grandfather passed away he was the proud owner of the Majestic Barber Shop for many years, so my username is in his honor.

    Thanks.
