Hi all.
I've been straight razor shaving since October 2016 and I haven't looked back at the old Gillette cartridge ever since. For me straight razor shaving was a bit of a blood sport to get started in but the good things in life don't come easy and a straight razor is definitely one of the "good things". My new, very close friends are Thiers Issard, Heinrich Thater and DR Harris among others. I spent some time at the Badger and Blade forum then found this forum. I spent some time analyzing their membership for a personal project on straight shaving interest and I've done the same for this one.
About me: despite the Dutch avatar I am of Irish/ French (with some First Nation in there to really make it homey) descent; the family name has been around here for several generations. I am in my early 50's, born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario but I've lived/ worked all over this huge province. I am recently retired from the public service and as a result I have time to enjoy the finer things in life and (gratefully) the modest means to do so.
I look forward to hanging out here as I am particularly interested in wet shave material as it pertains to straights. I picked up some Shapton water stones as well so I am working on keeping my edge as opposed to ship my blade away; having said that I believe I may have heard about this site while checking out the Lynn Abrams Shapton YouTube videos now that I think of it. Month three and I am starting to finish a shave with all my face parts intact (less the ear of course) so miracles do happen.
Than you for the opportunity to learn here.
