Thanked: 1Hi Guys, new here
Well, I used to use a straight razor about 25 years ago when I was deep into re-enacting/living history and I really enjoyed it. My wife gave me a beautiful SR for Christmas after I had talked about how much I enjoyed using them.
Well, Christmas morning finds me at the sink trying out my new razor and it is awesome and sharp beyond anything that I remember about using one.I did, eventually, get an awesome shave out of it but by the time I was finished the bathroom sink looked like I had butchered a hog in there. Apparently I needed to slow down.
Not so bad on day three today, I only reopened 2 of the 7 nicks I gave myself the first time and the sink looks like I only gutted a large buck in there, so a mighty improvement in just a couple of days.
I am looking forward to enjoying and learning, once again, the joys of mastering the SR.
If I don't bleed to death first.
Happy New Year to all,
Daniel in Texas.

Welcome back to straight shaving!
Alum blocks are a godsend for mending nicks on the face, if you don't have one I'd get one. They're cheap & last a long time.

Hello and welcome to SRP!
Take your time shaving. Slow and steady wins the race at first. Watch some shaving video's. Practice strokes with a butter knife that you think will work for you.
In no time you'll be an old pro.
First order of business is a blood free sink!
Good luck!
