Hey all. Name is Ryan. Just started training as a new barber but have always had an interest in knives so developing an interest in straight razors was a natural progression. I am new to straight razors and the art so bear with me.
Cheers

Welcome.
At least you'll be ahead of the pack, once you finish your training. They should cover the proper use of a straight razor, while your there.
Welcome to the land of crazies, Ryan. Most of us here are fairly new to this sport and are very patient with beginners. Don't be afraid to ask questions if you cannot find your answer already posted in a previous discussion or catalogued in the Library. If you thought knives were addictive, wail until you get more into straight razors. It can be quite the rabbit hole. ;)
Hi Ryan. Welcome! I've only been here a few days but the people here are very nice and knowledgeable. I did have one guy tell me that the best way to do it is just to close your eyes and go as fast as you can, but I think he may have been off his rocker lol. Have fun and welcome again.
Welcome to SRP. Best of luck with your training and as stated ask questions. Hold on to your wallet this can get addictive quick ;)
Welcome to SRP!
A lot of great folks and info here.
Enjoy and have fun
Cheers all. I look forward to the learning curve. I am doing my hot towel straight razor course at the end of the month. And will be looking for models in my area to practice my skills if anyone is around Chilliwack.
Hi Ryan and welcome to SRP!
Lots of great people and helpful information here.
Enjoy your time here on the forum!

Welcome. There are quite a few Canadians on this forum and a few BC boys.
Welcome to the forum Ryan. There's a world of knowledge here with these guys all one has to do is ask.
Ryan, welcome! Lots of razor love here, feel free to join in.
Hi and welcome. Hopefully you get lots of practice in the course. Takes a good hundred shaves to get decent. You will have to start shaving yourself for the extra practice. As said any questions just ask
It's a good thing I have a bunch of people lined up to practice on. Hahaha. Any suggestions before I take the course?
Hello Ryan, welcome to the SRP forum. It is a good idea to learn shaving yourself with a straight.
I guess that most guys in BC are bearded during the winter. Good luck for finding volunteers.
Yup. Every time I go to the city I see guys with beards that look like they bought them at the costume shop. They are a fashion accessory for sure. There is also no standard fair here, and most hit beard or no beard no matter the season.
That is so true eh! Beard not necessary in Canada but seems to be one of the trends over the last few years.
Anyone else here from the lower mainland, BC??
I would also like to mention that if there are any in the lower mainland of BC, I will need some volunteers to build my skills after taking my straight razor / hot towel shave course. If interested, drop me a message and we can make the appropriate arrangements. Cheers
I will let you know if I go to your region when visiting Canada.
Sounds Great!
Hello Ryan, one noob to another.
I've got a buddy that might be a volunteer for you. As soon as I find the private message button, I'll share some info... assuming you're still looking for volunteers?
I am still looking. Just completed the hot towel/straight razor course this past weekend. It was amazing!
Speaking of being a noob, I can't find the private message button on the smartphone version of this site. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious.
Only arrow I see anywhere top left is the one that links to page 2.
I tried clicking the name but it takes me to the users page with only the options to add as a friend or look up their posts.
Full tech idiot mode engaged.
