    Default Hi

New member here. Been lurking for a while.

I been using my Trak II and Weishi DE with Personna blades w/o any problems and achieve baby butt smooth shaves consistently and quickly with them. I get more fun with the DE though. The blades/cartridges for these solutions are pretty inexpensive, and so are the handles. My interest in straight razors is therefore not due to performance or price. I just love to shave with straight razors because to me they are way more fun.

About 6 years ago I purchased a $17 shavette with 300 Derby blades, and learned to shave with it. I got very mediocre results with it and quite a bit of irritation, so I gave up on it after quite a few months of trying. A few months ago I gave a professionally modified and honed GD 208 a try. It is by no means a looker, and it has some geometry issues (as in the tang is not uniform and it opens the flimsy scales as I open the blade). But it works great and was able to sharpen it a few times.

I decided to buy a Dovo Best Quality 6/8" from Amazon after my positive experience with the GD 208. Unfortunately my experience with it has not been very positive, and I feel I probably got a fake. I will post some place else more about this for guidance.

I love straight razor shaving stuff and I'm here to learn. Cheers!

    Hello and welcome to SRP!
My guess is that the Dovo you bought needs to be professionally honed if your "bad experience" is that it isn't shaving well. Quite a few razors that are sold as shave ready aren't even close. This also applies to many razors that are factory honed.
Anyway, enjoy your time here on the forum and have fun!

    Welcome from SE Washington State.

I'm glad that you've been pleased with your experience with DE wet shaving.

As far as the Amazon Dovo, it's true that factory edges simply aren't 'Shave Ready'. PM me and we'll see what we can do about that.

Again welcome to an Older But Better Way of Shaving!

It's a long strange trip but well worth the journey.

Welcome to the forum from another resident of eastern Washington. Glad you are moving toward the proper way to shave while having more fun at the same time. Besides the enjoyment, there is also the acquisition disorders that come with this hobby. Before you know it, you will have several razors, strops, brushes, hones, ...

    Enjoy the ride.

    Welcome to SRP!
Send the new Dovo out to be honed, the factory edge is not anything that you want to shave with.

Indeed. The new Dovo is sharp out of the factory. But not nice to shave with. Will likely send to sharpen.
