Thanked: 0Good day all
I'm new to the straight razor way, i'm actually fairly new to the whole wet shaving world. Only been doing this for about 4 months now. I just got my first straight razor, a Gold Dollar 66 that was pre-honed and ready to shave when I received it. I have not used it yet as I am waiting until I can get a strop. I am very excited about the prospects for this adventure and can't wait to get started. Anyways, just wanted to say Hi and looking forward to future conversations with everyone. Thanks!

If it is truly shave ready, don't strop it before the first use. Many people end up dulling the edge learning how to strop. If you use a shave ready razor first, you know what to expect and know if you do accidentally dull it.

Thanked: 0I'm pretty excited to use it anyways so I would have probably buckled and used it before I got a strop anyways. Now I know I will. Thank you for the advice.

Thanked: 0Just shaved with the GD and it was good and bad. 😄 I started with my cheeks and that went pretty good so I was confident. Moved to the rest of my face and that didn稚 go too well. Chin and under my nose both got nicks. My neck however was about the same as my cheeks. Two nicks for my first SR shave, I値l take it. Only did one pass with the SR and I did another one with my DE razor to complete the shave. I知 fairly happy though. I need to get a strop soon so I can continue practicing. Low on funds, baby number 2 is about a month away, so I知 trying to find a decent poor mans strop. Haha. Thanks for the welcomes. I look forward to learning and conversing with y誕ll.

I am new to the straight razor so take my advice with caution. Since your first strop will probably get nicked and cut in short order buy a cheap one. I bought a new strop from Ebay for under $20. It now has some nicks but still works.

Thanked: 0I actually came to the same conclusion. I just bought one from amazon last night for $20. I値l use it till it痴 unusable and then I値l upgrade to something better. I知 trying not to go all in until I see if I知 gonna stick with it. I bet I will, but it just depends if I have enough patience or not.
