Hello everyone. I am in the Charleston area. I was interested in learning to shave with a Straight Razor mainly to clean up around my beard.
I enjoy a good cigar or pipe in my spare time. I also enjoy a good adventure/fantasy book or video game.

Hi. Welcome to Straight Razor Place!
Welcome. You should have no trouble at all. To me, all the hard parts are in the goatee area.
I see you just bought a razor that needs honing. I'm not the most experienced, but can shave with what I sharpen. If you'd like to have it shipped to me, I could sharpen it up and bring it with me to Charleston over the holidays. Maybe we could meet up over pipes. Send me a private message (PM) if you are interested.
Alternatively, see if you can find a local member that might teach you a bit.
That would be nice. I was hoping to get another razor from family over the holidays that was shave ready, and was going to play at sharpening this one. But it wouldn't be an issue shipping it since I work in a shipping facility here.

Take your time and enjoy!
Hi and welcome aboard
@zrmcdaniel,
That's a nice razor you bought. It had a few small chips in the blade, that I've gotten out. I also just slightly rounded that spike tip - it looked dangerous. Shaved with it this morning and had a smooth shave. I'll get it in the mail today.
I recommend that you not strop it until after your first shave -- it is already stropped.
With this and the new/NOS that you are going to get, you can learn to hone with just a finishing stone, until you feel like working on dull razors.
Enjoy.

Welcome to the forum. Although straight razors are the prime topic of the forum, members are a rather interesting group with varied interests including cooking, pipes and cigars, alcoholic beverages, firearms, fountain pens, books, music, pets, etc. No matter what you passion, you are sure to find someone else who shares that same interest.
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone, and a big thanks to Mr. Houston for sharpening my razor.
