Haven't shaved once yet with my new Dovo. I have never used a straight razor actually. My first question is: Can I get my Dovo honed in Spokane, WA? It's brand new, showed up in the mail today. It's a 5/8 half hollow.

I am sure there is someone near you. Where did you buy it? If it came from straight razor design their razors come shave ready. Take your time, baby steps. Check the library. Ask questions.
Welcome, neighbor! I’d be happy to hone up your new Dovo for you. My stones barely get enough use as it is. ;)
Let’s see, I’ve got the Chosera 1k, SuperStones 3-5-8-10-12k, the SG20k and a blue-green Escher. That’s all I’ve got since Gssixgun saved (typed ‘shaved’ twice...lol) me early on from the pocket-picking evils of HAD. Well, to some degree at least. :)
PM me for contact information if you are interested. Cheers!
We are a great family. I told you there had to be someone near you.
Nice going speedster.
Welcome from Walla Walla!
I recommend that you take my friend Speedster up on his offer. He was taught by our good friend Glen (GSSIXGUN). Glen is also in your neck of the woods as he's in the boonies outside of Sandpoint ID.
This older but better way of shaving has a pretty steep learning curve but once semi-mastered it is truly a wonderful experience.

I just responded to his PM and clarified this honing would be totally free of charge — heck, honing is fun (well, ‘til it isn’t but that’s a wholly ugly tangent).
@cudarunner — I mentioned some similar points about straight razor shaving. It’s all about quality and enjoyment, not convenience...nor, saving on cartridges. :)
My hats off to you Mark. Good of you to step up and help make another new guy to the group enjoy his first shave. So many try to shave with the factory edge.
While I was in WA for the funeral I went to the high priced shave store in the mall to pick up some DE blades, was looking at the Dovo's in the display, and the guy told me all it would need was stropping before a shave. I told him to quit telling people that, and that ok would never shave with a factory edge. He wasn't happy with me.
All that aside, glad to have you in the group terriblegolfer. Glad you decided to check-in and ask a great question for your first question. Read the library. It takes time to learn to SR shave so when you give yourself that bad shave or draw blood a tiny bit, don't give up. It's worth the effort! And how many of your friends can say they shave with a straight? It's pretty manly IMO. :beer1:
Hello Golf Nut,
Welcome to SRP from another Pacific Northwest golfer. Hopefully, you can watch Speedster hone your razor, and I'm sure he'll give you some excellent advice about shaving technique.
