Thanked: 49Welcome to the forum Aaron.
Carpenter of 35 years here. Not much I haven't put a fine edge on.
Most woodworking tools I use get honed on lapping film on a piece of granite. Chisels and plane blades benefit from a flat surface and nothing is more consistent than film on granite for that, especially on a job site.
Film is also good for odd shapes like gouges and carving tools.

Thanked: 4827Welco,e to the forum/. We all came here for something. I wanted to learn how to hone and restore, and it has signifiantly improved my wood working tool sharpening while I was here.
