    Default Hello

    Hello.
I thought I would take a moment and introduce myself here in a place where it seems I am with like minded people. I really miss the days when my grandfather would take me to the barbershop and get a haircut and you would get the full treatment and come out smelling of clubman products. It was it seems one of the last places where men could be men and I don't mean that in a bad way I just think that in our culture those places are going away; places where men can gather and socialize, enjoy a cigar if they like, drink coffee and takes some time to enjoy a haircut and shave. Everything is in a rush now, they stack 5 blades on a razor so it looks like some piece of evil plastic with no heart.

I was so happy to find a place to buy some clubman products several months ago and started shaving again with an old double blade and mug soap. Instead of dreading this ripping sensation each day I actually look forward to a comfortable experience and a splash of aftershave and some hair tonic to my nearly bald head just because I can.

Some reading and video watching has got me confident enough to get a professionally re-honed starter straight and soon it will be here and I look forward to slowly learning that method as well. I better order a strop while i think of it or my shaving wont last long, anyway before long I anticipate several nice razors in the drawer. It seems a shame to let the traditions die out and I like nice things that help make me feel good. Well thanks for being here

Hi Dean, welcome to SRP. If your screen name is any indication I'd say we share more than one hobby. Read my sig below for when you get started with the straight. The DE experience will help since you'll have some experience with preparation, lathering and skin stretching. Check out SRP founder Lynn Abrams on the first straight razor shave here .
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

    Default Thanks

Not only is it a hobby, I got to do it for a living and occasionally still do. The three best words you can hear from your spotter when you have a "target" between the mil-dots. Take dead aim

Thanks for the welcome; I did see that video and it was what gave me the courage to give it a try. He's got a thick tough beard like I do so if it works for him it should work for me. In the plastic razor days I had to shave again if we were going out in the evening for something important, especially if there were going to be photos or I look like I did not shave.

Got to get some sleep I am on for 24hrs starting at 0800 tomorrow and its a friday; the start of the Wisconsin deer season, going to be a long day.

    Default Look forward to it

I live in Hartford, (about 35 miles NW of Milwaukee) but do get up to the twin cities on business from time to time so If you would not mind my looking you up when I am going to be in the area that would be great. Thanks for the offer. I can drop you an e-mail when I know I will be up that way.
