Hello, I'm new here and I've just recently ordered my first strop and razor (Dovo 5/8 full hollow). I've been using a nice brush and shave soap to prep my face for the last few weeks while still using my old mach 3 just so I could get used to the prep work and get comfortable with one thing at a time.

I just got the new razor and strop in the mail today and am planning my first real straight razor shave tomorrow. I had the razor professionally honed by the fine folks over at classicshaving.com before they sent it to me. I've been reading tons of info here, at classic shaving, and at badger and blade and feel that I've built a pretty good working knowledge of the basic concept. I also have a cheap straight razor with disposable blades that I've practiced the basic technique (grip, angle, stroke length, etc) only on my jawline and cheeks. I'm pretty excited about using the real deal and shaving tomorrow but am a bit curious as to whether there are any gems of wisdom anyone can give me that may not be mentioned as often?

Secondly, I read somewhere (I can't find the article again) that a thin layer of oil should be put on the blade after shaving to prevent oxidation. Should this be done after every shave and what kind of oil is best for this?

Thanks in advance for any help, from all of the reading I've done so far the classic shaving community seems to be pretty friendly and I look forward to becoming a part of it.
