Best Beef Jerky and Now the Best Shave
I figured since I make some of the best beef jerky on the planet I needed to match that with the best shave on earth.
IM ready to jump off the throw away cartridge train and start something better!
This forum is awesome. So much information.
Seems like its going to be a lot easier to find all the information I need.
I've got my eyes set on a DOVO for my first straight.
I loved reading this, "Once learned properly, you will find yourself feeling your face all day long as you become addicted to that baby butt smooth feeling.".
Say wassup!!!

Welcome to SRP!
It definitely is a fun hobby, so better watch that it doesn't bankrupt your business
It does take some time to get to the BBS, the best is when you start to aim for comfort, not closeness.
Don't forget to get a strop as well, it is necessary to use it between every shaves in order to maintain the razor sharp.
You've probably found it already, but the beginner's guide in the wiki has quite a bit of good stuff:
Straight Razor Place Wiki:Books/Beginners Guide - Straight Razor Place Wiki
Have fun and keep us posted how it goes.

It really depends mostly on your stropping, then your beard preparation, the razor itself.... Initially it is more often, then less. Generally weeks, months, some people have reported years.
Personally I have so many razors that I have very little experience with edges deteriorating to the point where they need to be rehoned, so I'm not a good person to ask. I can only tell you what I've seen others post on the forum.
Also at some point you would probably want to learn how to do simple touch ups of the razor and then you can maintain it virtually forever, as long as it's not damaged by an accident.
In any case for now there is no need to worry about honing (provided you get your razor well honed, like from SRD), and you can concentrate on the shaving itself.Last edited by gugi; 02-05-2011 at 12:47 AM.
