Thanked: 5edged tools
It's been fun so far, posting a few threads; moustache wax, honing and stropping, etc. I have gotten some terrific help from other members. I first got interested in edged tools through woodworking and especially fond of Japanese woodworking tools. Their culture, over many centuries has elevated the craft to a very sophisicated level. They take their steel very seriously. I've been collecting folding knives for a while now also; lately traditional slipjoints made by Great Eastern Cutlery. They are of very high quality and made in Pennsylvania. Got tired of disposables and thought that there had to be a better tool for the job. I quickly acquired six straight razors from ebay after doing some research online and all six turned out to be good razors; a couple Whostenholms, a Puma 52, a Peter J. Michels C-Mon, a Kropp, etc. I'll have lots of questions directed to those that are a little further down this path of traditional shaving. I really enjoy the honing and stropping process; kind of a meditative process for me. I forget about everything but the edge when at the bench. Don't know the difference between an aftershave and a cologne, never heard of a scuttle, a pre-shave treatment, the difference between a soap and a creme, etc, etc. Already got some good advice on acquiring my first brush. Thanks to all for the help in the last few days. Happy shaving!I'm from St. Louis, Missouri. Any traditional shavers near me? send me a PM! cheers

Thanked: 2209There are a whole bunch of guys in Mo. The founder of this website, Lynn Abrams, lives just down the road from you at Cape Girardeau ( sp?).
Hopefully some of the KC Crew will chime in here.
Lynn will be hosting a regional Razor Meet the first weekend in June. Plan on attending.
