    Default Shavin Chef from UK

Hi everyone at SRP Chefsemarty here from Suffolk England. Thank goodness there is somewhere to find information on straight razors. I started using a straight in December 2010 Dovo shavette ( I know not a real straight) using this razor has helped me with technique & angles now I've just started using a great little Dovo 4/8 French point & after some initial problems with getting it shave ready I have just had my 2nd real close smooth shave & as yet no major cuts or nicks. I have had some great advice & encouragement from Jockeys & Geofatboy who both have some brilliant videos on YouTube. I'm far from an expert but enjoying the whole shaving experience. I'm still unsure about honing but brought a Norton 4000/8000 combo stone & with the help from all the experts here I'm sure I will get there. I found Lynns clips on honing most helpful. Ive started to look a getting another straight perhaps a 5/8 just to feel the difference blade size. Hope to chat to some brother straight shavers soon. Thanks again for all the great advice.

    Thumbs up

Welcome! Congrats on taking the plunge. I don't know if you sharpen your own chef knives but the local sharpening guru where I live got into honing razors a few years back. He really understands metal and what happens to it when you put it on a stone. Yep he sharpens chef knifes on a stone. You might want to contact your local knife guru for tips.

I go to Suffolk regularly, my inlaws live in haverhill.
If you would like to get together sometime just pm me and I can bring my rocks (and razors) next time I'm in town and we could do some honing if you like.

    Mary,
Welcome aboard. Montana isn't very close to England, but I know from this site that you have a lot of expertise on the island.
