    Default Hello from SoCal

    Hello all,

My name is Curtis... A rookie. I have finally decided to jump into the wonderful world of straight razors after years of painful shaving due to inconsistent quality of disposable cartridge razor blades. I've tried everything from 2 blade cartridges to 6 blade cartridges and about every cream and prep technique you can imagine. Some creams were successful in providing a smooth comfortable shave but usually after the second shave the blades were done. I have horror stories about blades being dull, brand new out of the package! Companies sending me replacements after emailing them, and getting more dull blades. I've finally had enough so... After practicing stropping with my dads old straight razor, which I remember trying to use in high school... It ended up not being shave ready! , and a strip of leather; I finally made my first purchases. I got my razor here on the classifieds, a restored Edward Barnes Sheffield 7/8 Wedge, and got a Frank 23mm silvertip brush and "Big Daddy" black latigo strap from starshaving.com. Now I'm just waiting for them to show up in my mail box. I'm so excited, I feel like a little kid sitting in front of the Christmas tree waiting for everyone to wake up on Christmas morning. It's gonna be tough to take it slow and not jump right into trying to shave my whole face with 2-3 passes, but as my high school percussion instructor always said... "perfect practice makes perfect" which means fighting the urge and taking nice and slow so i dont hurt myself and ruin the positive experience straight razor shaving provides... I don't really feel like bleeding to much. Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself and thank all of you out there in advance for any help that im sure I'll be asking for.

    Curtis
