Thanked: 2Dutch Newbie
Hi all,
My name is Arjan, I am Dutch but live in Hong Kong since 2000. Anyway, I am interested in old skool shaving, and decided to give it a try. For costs reasons etc. I decided to try shaving with a shavette first.
I ordered:
SR1 shavette by Parker
Badger (mid-range quality hairs) shaving brush
Some sandalwood shaving soap
Derby blades
Metal ice cream bowl, which seems to be ideal for creating a nice lather, since there is a little foot you can hold on to while swirling the brush in the bowl. Nice ultra low cost option.
I guess within the coming few days I will receive those things, and will give it a try. I watched several Youtubes, like the one from Shavenation and read a bunch of how-to's and articles to get familiarized. I will post my experience later on. For now, wish me luck.Last edited by Kalecommando; 06-22-2011 at 04:43 AM.

Welcome and good luck. It sounds like you have already decided what you are starting with, that's part of the battle.
Remember that shaving with a real straight is different from a shavette so when/if you decide to switch it will still have a bit of a learning curve. What is nice is that you will already have down your lathering and some confidence when it comes time.
