I just wanted to stop by and say hi to everyone here. I have made some HUGE changes in my life in the past year and as a reward for my success, i decided to treat myself to my very first straight razor shave about a month ago (AOS in Aventura Mall in S. FL). I LOVED IT! It took me about 2 years to work up the courage to let someone get that close to my jugular with a razor, but i felt like i had earned it, and it was worth it. I am totally hooked. I bought a Dovo shavette and a Dovo Cocobolo Dark Wood Handle razor, as well as the cream, oil, balm and a pure badger brush. Two days later i cut the heck out of my face as i tried to use the shavette (I didn't load the blade properly and it got ugly) but i didn't give up. I still haven't used the straight razor yet as i wanted to try to get the technique down with the shavette before i tried to use the real deal. I am worried that shave ready does not mean "shave ready" and i want to make sure my technique is solid before i throw another variable into the equation (obtaining that shave ready, keen edge). I cheat a little bit with a Merkur Heavyweight DE razor from AOS on the neck and jawline, but i am making progress. I have a very busy, hectic job/life and i truly enjoy the process and procedure involved in my shaving ritual. It forces me to slow down at least a little bit at the start of my day and really starts me off with the proper mindset for the day, and on the right foot. I don't know what exactly it is about the Straight Razor Shave that i have this affinity for... but it is rapidly becoming part of who i am. Now i just need to practice and perfect my technique. And until i get really good.... well maybe i'll pay for one every now and then. I have heard there is a place in Orlando (Yates Barbershop) that does them locally, but i haven't been there yet. Anyway sorry for the long introduction, i have a tendency to get wordy from time to time, i do look forward to seeing you all around.
