    Default Just lucky?

i had this posted elsewhere but I think it belongs here,,

Hello all, my name is Bill, 55 years young, and new to this forum as well as taking the plunge to de and straight (parker sr1) razor. About a week ago, I ordered the parker, and a few days later I bought a used straight from Stimpy(?). Well the Parker made it here first,,,,,around 10 am this morning. Well, I couldn't get the box opened fast enough to look at this sometimes hated, some times loved, as per the many reviews found on the web and in the forums, face slasher. I thought, yep, sure looks like a device very capable of slicing a thin film of human flesh in the hand of someone, well, like me. So I laid it down after installing the half of a feather blade and walked away thinking,,,,later,,,,Ill try it later...At 7pm I got to thinking its later, and off to the shower I go,,,,hope I'm not making a short story long here guys, but anyway,,,out of the shower,,soap, brush, styptic, and ,,,,and,,,the slasher..Well I had read a lot on this forum and learned as much as I could by reading, and to stop making a short story any longer, took my time and not one cut!!! Wow,,what luck! Anyway, was it the smoothest ever, No, and I wasn't concerned about that part. I just wanted to complete the shave and try not to loose blood. Well, I think this is going to work for me,and cant wait till Stimpy's real straight gets here while my luck is holding up. Well that's my story and I'm sticking to it.....Great forum guys, glad I found it and can be part of it,,Bill

    Bill,

Welcome, and big grats. Your age means you learned to shave on a DE like myself. No nick w/ a feather blade is impressive. I've not heard of a blade more keen and able to carve man flesh. So the DE is a refresher for you, and you did very well. I bleed alot more w/ a DE than a str8.

My guess is that your success w/ the DE will be carried forward to the str8. What you learn about shaving from using the straight will give you better shaves no matter what tool is in your hand.

There's no doubt you're in the right place to learn the old art. Attitudes and quality of help is almost unequaled. 'Hope to hear more about your first str8 shave. You'll have learning curve, but will get the best shaves of your life.

Sounds great. What was your soap/cream? Aftershave? Sometimes the pain of an aftershave can tell you how your skin received it. Tomorrow is skin inspection day! Nice to see a beginner start out right.

I've never used a shavette, but after seeing the state of my friends face after a month of shaving with one, I can imagine it would be very easy to nick yourself with them, so well done! I know he found a straight razor an absolute joy after the gratings he took with the shavette, I'm sure you'll notice a big difference with it too.
