    Default Howdy from Cheyenne

I've used a DE safety razor for several years....decades to accurate...with varying degrees of satisfaction. I recently lost my razor (tragedy!) and set out to replace it. In looking for a replacement safety razor, I ended up ordering a straight razor from Classic Shaving (a Hart 6/8). I figure one spends enough time shaving that it should be a pleasurable experience. I tumbled on to this site after placing the order, so hopefully I didn't go astray there.

Many years back I tried using a second-hand straight razor without any instruction and proceeded to neatly slice my face up. That experience deterred me until now. (Maybe losing my safety razor was just the push I needed to look at straight razors again...) I hope to learn from the wealth of experience here. With some luck, my next straight shave will have better results than the first!

    Thanks!

Nix welcome first of all. And secondly you did not go wrong with the Hart razor. And C. make sure you spend as much time in the Wiki links and learn as much as you possibly can. There is a wealth of knowledge in and lots of videos to help you learn. These guys here are some of the most generous when it comes to sharing what they know.
    Again welcome to the light.

    Welcome to SRP.
You have made a good choice whit that Hart razor.
I'm sure that will serve you well for years to come.
Another factor you have going for you is your long experience in DE shaving.
The preparation and approach are similar in many ways to straight razor shaving.

My advice to you would be to read up on all the info on here, you'll find all you could ever need.
Although you are no beginner to the wet-shaving experience, do check out the helpful beginners tips on the frontpage.

    Welcome Nix!

Yeah, nice blade you ordered. Start slow, just the easy parts of your face first, and finish up with your old method or a disposable. Check out the Beginner's Guide to straight razor shaving; it's a great introduction.

Did you also get a strop?

"Did you also get a strop?"

I have an old 4-sided paddle strop, but I'm replacing that with a new one dedicated to my straight razor. The old strop got used for everything from pocket knives to chisels. Thought the razor--and my face--deserved something a bit more reliable than the workshop strop.
