Another Tennessee guy
I'm just outside of Kingsport. My wife gave me a straight razor for Christmas, but I didn't fool with it much. I've used a Rolls Razor (single edge) for a couple of years now.
I found a half dozen old straight razors in a local antique shop a few days ago, and a couple were much sharper than my 'factory new' razor - Gave one a try and actually enjoyed the shave.
So here I am, looking for info on honing and stropping, and learning about the other stuff that goes along with it... soaps, brushes, etc.

Radar - Welcome to the SRP forum from a former Tennessean. You have come to the right place for information about all the subjects you listed and even more. It won't be long before you come down with Razor Acquisition Disorder. (Sounds like that half-dozen you just picked up is a sure sign of pending RAD!) A couple times through the workshop section will have you wanting to restore some of those antique store finds. Then one morning you wake up and find you have become a blithering razor junkie just like the rest of us. Welcome to our world.
Regards - Walt

Welcome SRP Oldradartech!
You have come to the right place to learn about str8 razor shaving. If you can't find the info you are seeking in the WIKIs or videos all you need do is post the question here, someone will get back to you pretty quick.
BTW guys, I had a visit from Oldradartech this weekend and saw some of his handy work with leather.....this guy is good! If he acquires the same skills with str8 razors that he has with leather we are going to have some tough competition.

Welcome, I was just visiting Bristol this past weekend for a wedding and found about 9 straights in an antique shop out there. If you're interested they had some decent looking ones from popular names for a good price.

haha I must have been. They were two antique stores right next to each other. The one I bought from had a room in the back that said "everything 30% off" so I snatched up a nice razor that I'll be posting some time this week. When did you head in there? I was on Saturday.
*edit - If I remember right, there was a plain looking Bismarck that was in decent condition, only reason I didn't buy it is because I went a little crazy recently on my RAD.Last edited by TwistedOak; 10-26-2011 at 02:03 PM.
