    Default Hello Class!

I recently became a member at the urging of a SRP member that I was bombarding with email questions in my quest for a good antique straight razor on CL.

I currently own a Jatai Feather Artist Club RG, and while I love the heft and it's super sharp, I love maintaining my own blades. I grew tired of trying to find a good buy on ebay and knew if I went the custom route I wanted a Robert William's Custom!

I recently lucked out on a trip to see my family and was given a straight that recently turned up in the belongings of a grandfather I never had the opportunity to know. My father gave it to me and I was overjoyed to start polishing it and see what came out from under all the black!

I couldn't wait to get back home and try to put an edge on it. My Norton and Naniwa stones had not been delivered by Santa yet so I couldn't wait and decided to try my Spyderco Sharpmaker with the medium, fine, and ultra fine stones, (I think I heard someone groan in the back!), to get it ready to shave. I finished it on an old strop my father gave me ,made by Berninghaus, after reconditioning it. I had a great shave and it was way different than my FAC and I enjoyed it much more.

It's a Cattaraugus from Little Valley NY. I found some information about it online, but would like to know what the numbers on the tang and shank mean. If anyone knows about this straight please let me know, and I will try to put a couple pics up of it.

    Welcome to SRP Irishbear.
I haven't used one of these (give me time), however, I am lead to believe that they are good shavers.
It looks like it cleaned up well and you have got a shaveable edge on it - well done.
It doesn't look very worn at all and to have a grandfathers razor is something I would love.
Treasure it and give it the respect it deserves.
The numbers are model or catalogue numbers AFAIK.
Hang on and enjoy the ride
