Hello everyone,

Well I am new to this and want to start off by saying hello! I received my first straight razor for Christmas and this forum recommended my my sister who gifted my razor. I have been using disposable straight razors for the last 4-5 years (the kind most hair stylist use) and I'm really excited to use my new razor! I have one question though, what oil do I use to keep is from rusting?

T prevent rust the best thing you can do is to dry it completely. If you place oil over a damp spot on the blade then the oil traps the water in place and rust occurs. After the blade has dried then use some mineral oil. Do not store the razor in the bathroom or other high humidity area.

Be sure to have that razor honed by a pro from SRP and use a plain leather hanging strop for 30-50 round trip laps just before each and every shave. Your face will thank you.

Thank you very much for the tip! My sister actually had it honed by someone on this site before she gave it to me! I used it for the first time yesterday and did my 40 strops and loved the shave!! Using the straight razor was amazingly better than the disposable straight razor I've been using for years.

In reference to your question. After drying your razor with a barber's towel or tissue, strop it 15x on the fabric and 15x on the leather of your strop. Doing so will also assist the drying process.

Don't store it in your bathroom, where there is moisture. Your bedroom in a dresser drawer is best.

You can also use Camellia oil or Tuff-Glide, instead of mineral oil, as a lubricant.
