Default Retired... and still tired ;->

Found this site searching about a Shavette my wife picked up years ago as an 'antique' prop with a shaving mug and brush...

I have now absconded with the set, only cant use the Shavette (and won't after reading about the real Straight Razors here). Using 'The Real Shaving Co.' shaving cream in the mug, and love it. But the Gillette Fusion just doesnt cut it.

I do have a question though - I don't have the cash for a SR and Strop just yet, how does a DE Razor compare to current Cartridge Razors?

Without sounding like a song..."Night and day..." - I was a Mach3 guy for years...was handed a D/E while waiting for a SR to be honed. It's a complete better shave.

You're just up the road from Atlanta. If you're interested, there's a group meeting at Manuels Tavern Feb 4-5th to kick tires, talk shave stuff, hone razors, and look for trouble. There's a posting in the "Get togther and meetup" forum.

    Thanks for your service btw!

DE razors are a gigantic step up from cartridge razors and a great way to get into wet shaving. Much less cost and a better quality shave.

Thanks Moose. About to drive to Dahlonega to look for a DE at the antiques shops... never know. Going to the Get Together thread...

Does anyone know if you can fly with a DE in your carry-on or will TSA brand you a terrorist... I'm pretty sure you cant with a SR.

There's a thread for everything here (as I am learning). I believe what I have read is "Take the DE blade out...and buy them at a local store when you get where you are..." is a safe bet.

    I found this: http://straight-razors-for-sale.com/node/137

nice DE for nice price from a great SRP member.

They won't brand you as a terrorist, but they will confiscate your DE blades, but not the razor. Just pack the blades in your checked luggage and carry on the DE.

Chief I will tell you what, if you can make it to the meetup I got a couple razors that need very little work. I am sure some one there could help us get you one ready to shave with. I just dont think I will have the time before the meet. You will be welcome to it. We could probable even help you hone it yourself.

Poppy, I'll take you up on that. Looks like I'll be in town. Posted over in the meetup forum about a Safety I'm thinking of getting until then...

It's funny I found this place. Lately I've been getting into:
Old Tube Radios (I'm a Ham)
    Fine Cigars
    Single Malt Scotch
Old Time Pieces - wind up
    Old Mercedes Benz's

    and now Straight Razor shaving...

Either I'm getting old or I'm getting classy ;->
