Default Hello from a Dutch American in Minnesota

This is about my 4th attempt to get into straight razor shaving and I think this time it will work, thanks to the support from the wonderful Frozen Toe Minnesotans on this forum. I am on the straight road and seldom use anything but a straight razor anymore.Last time, I kept getting too much skin damage to keep going. The time before that, I don’t remember what happened. When I first started, it was about 2003 and the combined learning curve of shaving, keeping an edge keen, and being a new dad were too much for me. Back then, there was the Yahoo group, there was Don Walters’ honing service, and a NOS puma razor was about $ 50. I think I paid about $40 for a very nice looking Goldedge with box, but that was a steal even for those days.My first shave was a disaster, and it made the razor dull in one go. It got a little better after I bought a Boker King Kutter from someone on the Yahoo group by the name of Yo!Adrian. This turned out to be a great shaver that could withstand my abuse better than others. It is still one of my favorites. So, a few months ago, I dusted off the old Norton 4000/8000 and started learning again. There is a great support network here in Minnesota. I sat down with Randy Tuttle to learn to hone and for 3 hours, we did nothing but honing and testing, just for the fun of it. The recent Frozen Toe meeting was a great event and I even got to try out different types of hones. This is a really fascinating hobby and I am looking forward to taking it to the next level.

Hi Snuff, Thanks! Greetings to you too, in the land of the best beer in the world (Watou Prior....).
My brother gets his shaving stuff at the Koordenwinkel in Antwerpen.

    Thanks Rori,
I once had family in Germany (through marriage). That family connection no longer exists, but we had lots of fun hanging out with our German relatives. Good food, good beer.
