    Default Newbie from Wales

Hi, my name is Mark and im from Swansea, Wales.

Started out with a cheap shavette about 3 weeks ago, the blue bowl Wilkinson soap (which I have since read isn't so great and the shaving brush that used to be my fathers (looks natural from an unknown animal source lol) and decided a straight razor is the way to go for me.

Considered a feather SS for quite a while but decided to go for a vintage straight instead.

Ive just purchased a razor from Taylors1000 on eBay after reading on here they are well respected so my next job is to send it off to be professionally honed ready for my first shave but I do intend to buy my own hones in the near future.

On the look out for strop over the next few days.

Here's my weapon of choice, nothing too fancy but looks nice and clean and in good condition as a starting point -

With Christmas rapidly approaching ill be fleecing the wife for some nice soaps, balms and maybe a hone..

Welcome to SRP! Hope you have a fun journey and that looks like a decent shaver.
Shaving with facial hair is like a golfcourse. It's a challenge of rough and fairways. You are the skilled greenskeeper of your face?

Hello, Mark, and welcome to Straight Razor Place. The razor looks good, so you should have a good start. Do all the research you, and watch all the videos you can. Beyond that, if you have question, please don't hesitate to ask. Good luck.

    Welcome to SRP

I did a quick search of the SRP database for members in "wales" and found 22 listings.

Some of them may be in Wales, Australia but I think a majority are in your area. Hope this helps you in your journey.

    Hi Mark,

Welcome to SRP. Very nice looking razor and sending it to be honed is an excellent decision. When you get it back don't strop it before shaving the first time. Any good honer will also strop and send it back ready for use. Too many try stropping before their first use and damage the blade and don't get to experience a shave ready edge. As you can tell above there are many members with a lot of experience ready and willing to help! Welcome, and great shaves!!

    Regards,

    Howard
