    Default New guy from Wisco

I recently got a straight shave from an old barber and fell in love with the idea of doing it at home. I'm looking to make the leap from Gillette "Take all my money" Fusion to straight razor. I've read several posts and watched many videos but still feel overwhelmed. What is a good starter set that I will be happy with for a while? I shave my head as well. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Looking at a good 6/8
    3" strop
    silver tip
    scuttle
...and some sort of decent soap or cream

Hi and welcome. Check out the site vendors and you can't go wrong. The razor should be shave ready and you will know that your getting good equipment to start off with. Check out the library for all the starter info and the other basics of Sr shaving. Any questions feel free to ask.

Welcome SRP. Good advice above for getting your gear. As for a soap or cream, there are a ton of options from $ to $$$$, plus countless scents, so where to begin? Well, that's up to you since scents are a personal thing, but I recommend C.O.Bigelow cream, you can buy it at Bath & Bodyworks for $5 and $10 for the small or large tube. It has a light menthol scent and is very easy to build a decent lather with. Plus you only need a small amount so it should last you a long time. Overall it's a good entry level cream to try out for a small amount of money. Ask any other questions you have.

Do you mean the classified section or is there a specific vendor site other then SRD? I've found a couple nice razors over in the classified section.

Check out Gemstarcustoms.com, it is Glen's (aka Gssixgun) website or whippeddog (aka Larry) for some ideas. These are just a couple of suggestions besides the classifieds, there are more out there though.

Hi, and welcome to SRP. Check out the forums library there is a ton of information. As for me a 6/8 round point for starts, and having it professionally honed. 3" strop, and a good soap, example TOB's ( Taylor of old bond street ). Take your time and go slow on the shaving and enjoy!!!

rodb...Ja I'm down in Madison but spend a lot of time in Minnesota. My wife is from St. Cloud.

I might hit you up...I want to take it slow and ensure I'm getting the right product that I'll be happy with for a long time.

Cool! Get a hold of randydance062449 he has newbies over all the time and is a great teacher, I try to make as many of those get togethers as I can. He's about a mile north of Downtown St Paul

The site vendors are the ads that you see around the edges of the screen and those in the member services/classifieds
