What a great site you all have here! I just finished reading the beginner's tips series and have been looking at the classifieds. I have yet to look through the forum itself. I figured I'd introduce myself here first since this seems logical?
I come from a blade and firearm background. The gun hobby has relaxed a bit as of late- as monies have dwindled in this economy. I started getting frustrated at the cost of disposable razors and decided to look into other options. Low and behold I found this new world. So, I've been reading quite a bit this weekend and have really enjoyed looking through potential cheap (brand named) ebay acquisitions and high quality customs (billysblades.com).
Yes... yes.. I know the common ebay theme is to stay away from them for the first six months. But, I'm a collector naturally and I'm not opposed to getting my hands on some old vintage blades just for the sake of collecting. Plus, if I ever want to take up honing, I'd have something to practice with? Also, the old razors just look cool.
At this point, I do believe that my interests will probably reside in the restoration elk? I love to tinker with things and make them new again. My only problem is getting things sharp. I've never really learned the art. So, I'm hoping I might be able to learn a few things with my time here. Heck, I might even find that shaving with a SR will become a daily habit too?
Anyways, cheers!
