New to all of this. Never shaved with a straight razor, although I have had it done. Read alot of the Wiki, and I guess I am looking to get set up with a razor and what I need. Wanted to say hi and see what anyone thinks I should get.

Welcome to SRP. As a relative newbie my best advice is to read lots of articles on this site relating to straight razor shaving. Look at the library which has the best advice you can get.

Hasten slowly and do not rush into spending your hard earned dollars on the wrong setup.
Consider buying a "shave ready" razor from a fellow member on the classifieds or from "WHIPPED DOG", a well respected vendor supplying inexpensive shave ready razors and accessories to beginners.

you should get a strop, a razor (or 2), a brush amd some different soaps and creams to try out. you are limited only by your wallet and personal tastes.
some folks only want a new razor while others are good with vintage or used razors there is generally a savings with the vintage razors although some collectable ones can cost more than an new custom made razor. for a first razor think about a 5/8 width with either a round point or muted spike.
the brush can be an inexpensive boar brush from a drugstore or walmart or an fancy thater or plisson badger brush... or anything in between i have 4 silvertip shavemac and an omega boar brush... they all work great.
strops are hard to go real cheap on. you should start with a basic or starter strop but get one at lest 2 inches wide and 18 inches of stropping length (the leather section between the hardware and mounts)

I think I would prefer to go the route of a razor thats $180 or under. Pre owned is fine with me, I'd rather have something with some character. Also if possible, seeing as I have no idea on what to get, a ball park cost of everything.. and if I can get everything through you helpful people that would also be great. Been reading a lot on the subject but obviously have no idea what type I should have and what not.
