Yet Another Noob
Greetings and Salutations!
Hi everyone. I am an old hand (10+ years) at wet shaving with a piggy brushes and a DE (or, maybe a dozen DEs....or so....darn things keep appearing on my shelves). I just purchased my first straight from Mr WhippedDog last week and await its arrival. Luckily, I just found that a meet is happening near me in only a couple of weeks:
Mid-Atlantic States April 27th 2013 Get Together, Meet-up, Hone-down and good time
Woo Hooo!
Two weeks should give me just enough time to get the razor from Larry, cut myself a few times with it and beat the razor against the strop until it resembles an icepick!
I would like to take one moment to thank everyone who freely shares their knowledge on this site. I have been an unregistered reader for some time and have found many useful articles. Thank you.

Welcome to SRP multiXT, hope your transition to straights is nothing like your description! but seriously since your experienced with a DE works to your advantage, lots to learn on here, Enjoy!

Received the package from Larry in this afternoon's mail. He ships fast! He was also kind enough to attach a set of simple to follow instructions to each of the items I purchased: poor man's strop kit, razor 1/2 seen (a nice JR Torrey), and a vintage handle/new silvertip brush. I found these instructions very valuable since they answered some questions that I perhaps wouldn't have thought to ask like....How many drops of neatsfoot oil should one put on a new strop? Or, how should one renew the abrasive on the balsa strop? These were great IMHO and will probably cut my learning curve at least a little bit.
At present, I am feeling my face wondering if I have sufficient growth to do an evening shave.....I used my favorite DE setup this morning: trusty 1950's fatboy Gillette with Gillette 7 O'clock Sharp Edge (yellow box), VDH and a boar, finished with Clubman Pinaud.....still feeling fairly smooth. Maybe just the sideburns?? :-).

If you are that antsy and the growth is light just do WTG on the cheeks and if you’re feeling squirrely after you can try XTG.
I do not need to shave every day (I used to think this was a blessing... now I think it is a curse :p)
And a BIG Welcome to SRP

I tried out the silvertip badger brush last night....I am a convert! I have used a boar brush that came with a VDH soap set for several years. Didn't know what I was missing. I also shaved my cheeks. Worked well!
