Thanked: 0Yet Another Noob
Greetings and Salutations!
Hi everyone. I am an old hand (10+ years) at wet shaving with a piggy brushes and a DE (or, maybe a dozen DEs....or so....darn things keep appearing on my shelves). I just purchased my first straight from Mr WhippedDog last week and await its arrival. Luckily, I just found that a meet is happening near me in only a couple of weeks:
Mid-Atlantic States April 27th 2013 Get Together, Meet-up, Hone-down and good time
Woo Hooo!
Two weeks should give me just enough time to get the razor from Larry, cut myself a few times with it and beat the razor against the strop until it resembles an icepick!
I would like to take one moment to thank everyone who freely shares their knowledge on this site. I have been an unregistered reader for some time and have found many useful articles. Thank you.

Thanked: 0Received the package from Larry in this afternoon's mail. He ships fast! He was also kind enough to attach a set of simple to follow instructions to each of the items I purchased: poor man's strop kit, razor 1/2 seen (a nice JR Torrey), and a vintage handle/new silvertip brush. I found these instructions very valuable since they answered some questions that I perhaps wouldn't have thought to ask like....How many drops of neatsfoot oil should one put on a new strop? Or, how should one renew the abrasive on the balsa strop? These were great IMHO and will probably cut my learning curve at least a little bit.
At present, I am feeling my face wondering if I have sufficient growth to do an evening shave.....I used my favorite DE setup this morning: trusty 1950's fatboy Gillette with Gillette 7 O'clock Sharp Edge (yellow box), VDH and a boar, finished with Clubman Pinaud.....still feeling fairly smooth. Maybe just the sideburns?? :-).

If you are that antsy and the growth is light just do WTG on the cheeks and if you’re feeling squirrely after you can try XTG.
I do not need to shave every day (I used to think this was a blessing... now I think it is a curse )
And a BIG Welcome to SRPIt is just Whisker Whacking
Relax and Enjoy!

Thanked: 0I tried out the silvertip badger brush last night....I am a convert! I have used a boar brush that came with a VDH soap set for several years. Didn't know what I was missing. I also shaved my cheeks. Worked well!
