new to straights
Am just beginning my straight shaving adventure and have already fallen foul of an eBay (vintage) razor that was close to the end of its usable life. Though not to worry I can use it as a project/ something to practice honing etc on, if I didn't destroy it in an attempt to correct a heel problem, will find out what Os thinks of my efforts if he doesn't disown me:-). Should have taken up his offer to fix it, thought it wouldn't be too hard, turns out it was:-(. Thanks to Os for all of the good free advice and patience, I am sure he must get asked the same stuff over and over again.
Regards Ed

We sing harmony in praise of Os. He's helped a whole bunch of us. 'Would be worth the trip to Oz just to get a few hours hanging w/ him.
You have some good guys down under. 'Might be well worth connecting w/ some of them to help along the path.
Have a great time learning & don't be a stranger here w/ questions.

Thanks, probably won't have any questions until I get a razor. Oh i take that back may well need some names of people who sell cheaper but shave ready vintage razors, in Australia they seem rare but I noticed quite a few in the classifieds, though mostly only for sale in US. I am not fussy regarding looks as it will be my first usable straight razor, so will want to be sure it is for me. Besides you wouldn't want something too pristine as a first car incase you damaged it and I am inclined to feel the same way about my razor. besides, I like things that wear their character and age to be seen. Will keep you informed of my progress. And will no doubt take up your kind offer of advice.

Belated welcome Ed. Some of us have busted 1 or 2 razors also.
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
