Default Building a House, Ideas for Bathroom for Straight Razor Friendly

My apologies if this isn't the right forum, but I am about to begin the process of building my own house and I was just curious if anyone had any ideas/suggestions on what you would like in a bathroom to make it more straight razor friendly?

I'm thinking along the lines of custom built place for stropping or a built in to hold razors or whatever. Just looking for any and all suggestions.

    Thanks!

Large Double sink....that way you can have your area...she can have her's...word of advice, make it with a large sink, and a small sink. Same with shelving and Medicine cabinet. Give her the large one of both and let her have a little space on yours and save yourself her slowly taking over your area. She still will but it might buy you enough time to enjoy your area for a while. If you don't have a girlfriend, wife...do it anyways just in case!

    Take a look here....

I think that a hidden slim drawer under the countertop, full width, would be great. No handles, and recessed an inch or so back from the edge of the countertop, with a small grove under so you can easily grab and pull the drawer out. Only an inch or so high, so you can have your razors lined up inside. Id have it so the razors were towards the back of the drawer, with a couple of eyelets bolted inside at the front where you can attach strops. That way, you simply open the drawer, select your razor, and fold a strop out and over the side of the drawer, then return it once done. I wouldt have a handle on it so guests dont see it and dont play with your razors or try stropping them. Realistically, guests inspect your medicine cabinet etc, so if there was a drawer they could find containing razors, it's only a matter of time until someone has a play with your razors.

I would like an air line in the Den of Shaving.

It could be used to blow dry both straight and DE razors and other bath items.

I was going to do this in our new house but the compressor and the Den are on opposite corners and the ceiling is already finished. Obviously, I have to build a Shave Den in my shop. Yeah, that's the ticket to happiness.

Bathrooms may be where you shave, but they are not razor-friendly in terms of storing razors.

Actually we finished construction and started with all the interior this past week. I can tell you what I'm planning, I'll follow up in 3-4 months, after I moved in and gave it a test run, to say if it worked...
The plan is: a huge window for light and ventilation, 2 sinks with mine by the wall, with built in shelving on the wall to right of the sink. One of the shelves will be pattern cut to accommodate hung brushes. The rest will hold my soaps and aftershaves. A big, well lit mirror+an adjustable wall mounted mirror. A reinforced wall hanger will hold my strops. I'm not planning on storing my blades in the bathroom. Now is exactly the time to tell me what I forgot...

Put a drain in the floor for those little nicks If haven't already configure the bathroom so later on if necessary you can access the tub and shower or whatever fixtures you have through a linen closet or some other access area. when I built this house I put the linen closet at the end of the tub and shower and put an access door inside the closet. came in handy since now I'm remodeling the bathroom.

Well I'm all about the sink area. It's nice to have deluxe faucets and sink bowl in my opinion. I would start with a fancy bowl like Mexican or Italian painted style bowls. And faucets with nice Victorian handles on'em. Also the mirror is important. A nice wood framed mirror and also a smaller swing arm mirror for those vanity attacks. and light fixtures for me would be old school Victorian looking wall and tabletop. also I'm into wood, wood and more wood........but that's me and just giving my opinion. This is your kingdom not mine.

Install under mount sinks. It eliminates the edge between sink and counter top where the grunge wants to collect. Just wipe down the tops into the sink.

The hidden drawer idea is nice but WILL require custom cabinetry to do it. No pre-fabs or "semi customs" are going to have that... Interview well, ask for references, expect a BIG BILL.
The easy road is rarely rewarding.
