Whats The Best Oil

OK the oil I'm using now is the oil you get from SRP called straight razor oil. Don't know what type of oil. Anyhow, this oil tends to bead up on the metal I'm looking for an oil that coats my blade and stays coated. My thoughts are if the oil is beading up and leaving some parts of the blade with no oil how can it be protecting it?

Does anyone have an oil which coats and does not bead that they would recommend?

I have the SRD razor oil and have been using it awhile and have never seen beading at all. Clippercide may be something else to consider, a quick spray and done. I dont oil my own blades though. Never saw a reason to. If theyre dry and stropped when theyre put away they should be good. I always let them air dry open overnight.
edit: Make sure the razors are completely dry before applying of you may seal the moisture in. Steel and oil mix very well, water and oil no.

TuffGlide. Not really an oil. Put it on, wipe it off. Stays seemingly forever, dry. My choice!

I also use SRD razor oil. I have not experienced what you are describing. Contact SRD if you have any questions. These are fine upstanding gentlemen and run business the old school way.

I thought about the OP's beading question. Oil will bead up as the blade has just been polished. Scrub it good, with a toothbrush. I use diluted Simple Green. Open the pores, so to speak. Dry well before applying.

The initial smell may not be to everyone's liking, but the smell evaporates quickly and Ballistol works well for straight razors and has many other uses.

I bought a 16oz (non-aerosol) can and fill small 3oz pump containers for home and when on overnight trips. I found this to be the easiest application method, but care needs to be taken that the spray-bottle does not leak when travelling.

Less commonly, it can also be found as wipes, which could be useful on trips as it would do away with the need to carry a (spray-)bottle that could break or leak in the suitcase and therefore needs protective wrapping.

Non toxic too. Actually I don't find the smell bad at all. I wonder if this can morph into another "Arko stick smell" issue???

For years I have used the "razor magic nectar": Ballistol. I have two big containers of it, which I figure should take me into the next century. Good stuff.
