Thanked: 0Can Anyone tell me what this is?
I was told by a really old barber that this was a razor from the 1700's, but i can't find anything to support this. can anyone help me? I am an antiques dealer and have all kinds of razors, but have never seen anything like this. Thank you in advance for your assistance!!

Most interesting. I'd almost say it was an Asian attempt to salvage a straight razor based on the decorative scales. You are in Idaho, where gssixgun is. He is a Senior Moderator and one of the best honers and restorers among us. Send him a PM and maybe you can get to show him it in person. That would sure tell us more than a photo would.

To me it looks like a very specific item made for a very specific task could be culinary or craft based pure guess by me.

Replying mostly so I can follow.
Interesting piece for sure. The Handle just does not look to match the Blade to me and the Blade at the top (spine) of the Toe looks exactly like modern 0-1 Blanks I've seen with that corner seeming to have been removed by a machine. ??
My guess is Franken-Tique but that is just a guess...
Hope it turns out to be something cool!!

Agree with Prahston, handle and blade did not start life together. Flowers look like peonies on the handle....and what would the third rivet be for? I think it is a shank made in a Chinese prison from something old and something new.

It's a nice letter opener, lol, it doesn't look like anything of it's day if that is from the 1700's, someone probably hand made that and it's probably just recently time wise. Good luck trying to date it.
