well There are a lot to choose from. I don’t use mine a lot but a warm shave is nice. It seems that most are around $65USD. There are some that have rigged double bowl systems for much less. Sounds like it should be on the gift list.
You could maybe post what you are looking for in the 'Wanted To Buy' section. You never know what someone has sitting around in the shave den not being used. Good luck!
+1 to the posting on WTB. Another thought is to visit a local potter... they should be able to make one for you reasonably cheap. Guy down the road from me charged me $9 for a bowl, $15 for a scuttle. Groove the inside of the bowl.
There are several threads on scuttles.
Review them to find one you like.
Two bowls of diffrent size, one inside the other and warm water in the outer one. I bet you could find what is needed at goodwill for 3 bucks if you wanted to go cheap. I spent upwards of 100 bucks for mine. But I wasnt trying to go cheap.
I best most of us have kids! Just most of us have kids with kids. Lol.
To be honest and open about it if a warm lather shave is what you are after then yes, a double-hulled bowl is the way to go. If you just want a bowl of suds just about anything the size of a huge coffee mug can do the deed. I found a rough interior bowl at Goodwill for under 4 bucks that do the job (I'm also a cold water shaver so warm suds does nothing for me.) There are a lot of threads on scuttles, enjoy seeing the variations.
If you want a warm shave you need a double walled scuttle. It's one of those things that once purchased will last a lifetime plus. I'd say save your pennies until you have enough to buy one. They aren't terribly expensive.
Budget brush scuttle.

I wasnt trying to be cheap i was just saying i prefer to spend on the kids and not myself and was looking for inexpensive because i have never tried one and i dont know if i will like it or even want to use it after the first time.
An actual purpose made shaving scuttle is not inexpensive, there have been various work arounds suggested with the option of saving over time to purchase one.
I don't have kids and thought I might like to try one years back. Got one and tried it a few times. For me having warm lather turned out to be no big deal in the scheme of things and the scuttle was just another thing to clean and put away after shaving so it has sat idle somewhere ever since.
I happily went back to face lathering using cold water for shaving. OTH a lot of people like using a scuttle. You pays your money and you takes yer chances.

Float a bowl in warm/hot water to try and see if you'd like it. Will give you the same effect.
I suspect scuttle users are a small (but perhaps vocal) minority. Most folks use a bowl/mug or face lather.
Yep the way i look at things is if im meant to have one then i will but if not i wont so i dont worry about it because things work out how they are meant to be...i either face or bowl lather currently and either use cold or warm water depending on how i feel at the moment. I will figure something out sometime so thanks everyone for your input..
Floating a bowl in the sink is certainly a low cost option to determine if a scuttle really matters without spending a single dollar on one. A senior mod here refuses to own some of the finest scuttles when he can instead play boats in his sink. :p There’s a low budget, short-term solution alright.
Another YMMV deal for sure. I still don’t know how these guys cold water shave for instance. :)
A scuttle is just something else I can drop and break. Or, your kids can do that for you
I'm more of a face lathering kind of guy, a warm lather shave is something I do on occasion, usually the holidays of winter time. The only reason I bought a scuttle, was because the one I have was found in the wilds, and was custom made/ordered for the individual. And admired by all here, as for myself.
By the Derby silver Co...

Wasn't cheep, but it is one of a kind, from late 1800s
I do something a little different. I lather in a ceramic mortar bowl from a mortar and pestle set. The bowl has a flat bottom. I place that bowl on top of an electric candle warmer designed to melt Glade wax melts. Obviously, using an electric appliance near a sink poses some potential hazards, but I have a GFCI and I tie the cord so the warmer cannot fall into the sink. Since the lather bowl is heated during the shave, it does not cool off like a scuttle would do.
Since you have young children, you would have to be careful to put away the candle warmer after your shave. I leave mine out on the counter.
Thank you everyone for all the insight into this topic. I will probably try a few of the things mentioned here and if and when i ever find one in the wild that i like i will get it and have one. Until then everyone enjoy your shaves and Enjoy Life ! Have fun and a great day.
I've face lathered for years without any mugs or scuttles and then used a cup to keep the lather warm for many years and tried all kinds of routines to heat the cup and in the end found the scuttle to be simple and it worked very well. Of course if you don't care about warm lather (and by the way you can use a scuttle to keep lather ice cold too) then it doesn't matter.
I guess like all other shaving gear you don't need fancy razors or expensive soaps or a collection of high end hones. It a matter of spending our resources for maximum benefit which is different for us all.
I think these are pretty cool.

Yes, those vintage scuttles are pretty cool but do nothing to keep the lather warm.
