New GPS G5 Scuttle

I read about your set up awhile back and the hot lather you get from your currant setup will make anything else seem cold by comparison.

I made a lather dish out of copper but it was only an inch deep. making my lather in something else and tranfering it to the copper bowl set on a insulated mug of hot water worked well.
Made me a shaving brush holder out of it. Wish I could post a picture of it you guys would be green with envy.

Going to make another larger copper dish out of 2 inch hard copper pipe. When split that ends up being 7 1/2 inchs wide so it will be just right.
They look real nice after you hammer them out with the ball end of a ballpeen hammer and polish them up.

I understand what you saying, and I thought about it, that using anything else wouldn't come close, but this scuttle isn't cutting it. I'd be better off with a Large Coffee cup. After first Pass, it's cold, it get's cold to fast, and for 60.00 USD, not worth it, IMO.
Now, There are larger scuttles with German names two miles long I can't pronounce, and are supposed to be good. The thing is, with the money spent, I really don't want to, nor should I have to modify a scuttle that's supposed to keep lather warm, not cold. I've contacted them, and asked if they tested the product. I am not satisfied with it.

Its not that the walls are too thin just the opposite they are too thick. The small amount of hot water is lost trying to heat through the thick walls. The G5 holds about 5oz of water or so. My Oskar scuttle hold 16oz and has thinner walls and that makes the difference.

If you still have it, after filling both vessels with hot tap water a couple times. Letting it stand btw fills so the material warms up. Third time just fill the outter vessel and microwave it for say 20-30 seconds. Times vary depending on your microwave and how much water it holds.
My outter vessel holds 14 ounces so I microwave it for 1 minute in an 1100 watt microwave. Stays hot for 3 passes easy. Since my shave den is the laundry room that also has a bathroom sink and throne, it's also right next to the kitchen. I've been doing it that way for 2 years and it doesn't appear the microwave is having any ill effects on my ceramic scuttle.

+1 to nuking it.

I use my G4 daily and I nuke it for about a minute and forty seconds (with both the inner and outer water reservoirs filled). The heat lasts through my face wash, lathering and two passes (that's all I do). I am currently thinking about upgrading to the G5, since I use it so much and the improvements sound like it would work even better.

Zib, what's the latest on your attempts to get the G5 to work for you? I just stumbled upon them and they look awesome. I was thinking about trying to get my wife to buy me one for my upcoming birthday, but if they don't work like they're supposed to, what's the point? I also don't want to have to make trips to the kitchen to shave. Have you found a way to make it work for you?

i thought the G5 were suposed to be some of the best??? i have kicking the idea around of getting one for about 2 months...unless there is something better out there i dont know about...i hear great things about the SRD scuttle but they say its to small to lather in.........
