Cappuccino Mug For Lather?
I've been using a cappuccino mug for making lather -- pretty much, one of these:

However, I've wanted to get a new one, well, with some nifty art on the side. I found this one:

(Although some of you may prefer this one:

While I like the art, I was a bit concerned about the shape, particularly about what appears to be a flat bottom. However, the more I thought about it, I sort of have a (minor) problem with the rounded concave one I presently use, in that the lather sometimes gathers around the upper portion close to the rim, so that I have to push the lather down to gather it.
Therefore, I pose to this august group, do you think the steep, flat-bottomed shape of my proposed new one would alleviate this; or, would the brush tend to knock against the sides of the mug, potentially damaging both and definitely annoying me every morning?
Thanks,
Derek

That's very interesting, I do admire the aesthetics of the (almost) forgotten eras... Would you mind sharing where you found one of these or at least providing a link / photograph?
Hello, DerekW:
I bought the pewter mug at: knifecenter.com. Several other vendors carry the mug, including Classic Shaving, Vintage Blades and Best Grooming Tools, but the Knife Center had the best price. The Knife Center also carries the apothecary mug, but I bought mine years ago elsewhere — I don't remember where?
Also, if you Google "pewter shaving mugs," you'll come up with a selection of old timer replicas.
Porter's of Bozeman, Montana, has the l921 replica shave mug. Amazon has the same one just a tad less expensive.
The other shaving mugs I have picked up at flea markets and antique stores. I don't collect shaving mugs per say; I use the ones I have. One of these days, though, I might start putting together a collection. I love old time shaving mugs.

Obie
