Thanked: 4Cappuccino Mug For Lather?
I've been using a cappuccino mug for making lather -- pretty much, one of these:

However, I've wanted to get a new one, well, with some nifty art on the side. I found this one:

(Although some of you may prefer this one:

While I like the art, I was a bit concerned about the shape, particularly about what appears to be a flat bottom. However, the more I thought about it, I sort of have a (minor) problem with the rounded concave one I presently use, in that the lather sometimes gathers around the upper portion close to the rim, so that I have to push the lather down to gather it.
Therefore, I pose to this august group, do you think the steep, flat-bottomed shape of my proposed new one would alleviate this; or, would the brush tend to knock against the sides of the mug, potentially damaging both and definitely annoying me every morning?
Thanks,
Derek

I don't see how knocking your brush against the sides of your Cappucino cup while mixing lather will damage your brush. I'd be more concerned with eventually cracking the side of the cup.
That having been said, if its been working for you up to now, why change? There is no one type of bowl or cup that can be used to mix shaving lather. That's an individual preference.
Whatever floats your boat--and helps you craft the shaving lather that suits you."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain

Cappuccino Mug . . .
Hello, DerekW:
Our good friend Jhenry is correct: use what is comfortable for you. Cappuccino mugs make good shaving mugs.
By the way, that cup with the nubile females is most attractive, though not practical. I think I would spend more time admiring the display on it rather than making lather in it.
You might want to consider a pewter mug for lathering. Currently I rotate about a dozen soaps each in its own mug — mostly replicas of old timers — and lather in the separate pewter mug, also a replica of an old timer.

I agree with all the others in that you should use whatever you like.
I have seen awesome "scuttles" and other antique-ish bowls that would work excellent. But I personally use a soup bowl. Yes, just a mild mannered soup bowl with a coffee mug type handle on it. It looks like a shaving soap/cream bowl (close enough anyway) which is why I am using is.
Good luck in finding the right "mate" for your morning/evening shaving experiences.
The girls on the cup would distract me too, btw!

I started out using a coffee mug to lather in, but SWMBO got me one of these from Amazon.
Muhle Black Porcelain Shaving Mug: Amazon.co.uk: Health & Beauty
They work really well, are very wide and hold the heat well too, so your lather wont get cold. I highly recommend them!

Cappuccino Mug for Lather?
Hello, DerekW:
I bought the pewter mug at: knifecenter.com. Several other vendors carry the mug, including Classic Shaving, Vintage Blades and Best Grooming Tools, but the Knife Center had the best price. The Knife Center also carries the apothecary mug, but I bought mine years ago elsewhere — I don't remember where?
Also, if you Google "pewter shaving mugs," you'll come up with a selection of old timer replicas.
Porter's of Bozeman, Montana, has the l921 replica shave mug. Amazon has the same one just a tad less expensive.
The other shaving mugs I have picked up at flea markets and antique stores. I don't collect shaving mugs per say; I use the ones I have. One of these days, though, I might start putting together a collection. I love old time shaving mugs.
