    Default Brush Scuttle Recommendations

    Hello All,

I have been considering getting a scuttle. I think I want to get a brush scuttle as opposed to a scuttle in which you lather. The two contenders for me are the new SRD brush scuttle and the DirtyBird Brush Scuttle. Does anyone have experience with these scuttles? Any recommendations? Would you recommend a lathering scuttle instead of the brush scuttles?

Right now, the SRD is in the lead.

As always, thanks for your help and comments.

I have not used the dirty bird, but have been using the SRD scuttle for about a week now. It works very well, IMHO.

I decided on getting a blue SRD brush scuttle. It looked easier to use since it is a one piece design. I might try a DirtyBird Brush scuttle someday. Would you recommend using warm, hot, or boiling water in it?

I use water as hot as I can get it and soak my brush while in the shower. I then drain the scuttle and re-fill it with hot water before I lather up and leave just a little water in the bottom of the top bowl. This acts as a heat conductor and really helps keep the suds warm for the entire shave including re-lathering.

    Have fun,

    Lynn

This little tip helped me out a lot. Before this I always had trouble with the lather drying out in scuttles

I have a cross between them I guess. My ceramic soup bowl in about 4 inches deep by 6 inches in diameter - with a handle. Rather then double walled, it is single. I'd say it's 1/4 to 3/8th's inches thick. I keep it warm in another, bigger ceramic bowl full of hot water. It works. Keeps my lather warm throughout my shave.

Thanks so very much for going into such great detail. It was very clear. I hope others benefit from it as well.

    Thanks again, sir!

    Cheers!

I snapped a picture of the SRD scuttle w/ a 24mm thater in it to help give some perspective on the size and how much room you have in it.

    Hope this helps.

I broke down and opted to get a REAL "scuttle".......I got the one from dirtybird. Dirty Bird Pottery - Wheel thrown and hand crafted home goods, kitchenware, gardenware, shaving pieces and more...

Thanks for the info and links!
