This just arrived in the mail today. Scuttle and brush soaker from Robert Becker. The bowl is approximately 4 inches wide, and about 3 inches deep.
I don't think I'll have time to test drive it tomorrow, but I certainly will on Saturday.
I'm really digging the paintjob on this! I know we all like new toys, so I thought I'd share a few pics.
I'll post again after I take it for a spin.

On another note, my RB Scuttle has been used everyday since I got it. But now that I know he makes a cool looking scuttle with a "brush holder," I may need a new one.

I literally read some threads here, and few over on another forum, went to check his Ebay store out and there was nothing that appealed. The very next morning, there was a picture of this one.....which promptly caused me to press the "Buy Now" button!

I think those who design these shaving bowls should add a little lip at the inside top of the bowl. When my brush gets full of lather, a little lip or extension or ring would help scraping lather out of the brush back into the bowl.
I ran into a cooking bowl with this feature, and use that bowl exclusively now. The manufacturers added the lip simply to give the lid (which I don't use) something to rest on.

Dang you, I was being so patient for mine up until I saw that picture. I got a similar model with a white glaze coming. Lets see a full report! I hope they are as awe-inspiring in person as in the pictures.
Can't wait. Thought I could. It's currently heating for a test lather. Report is coming.

I`ve never heard of Robert Becker until now, but it looks like he does nice work. Does he only sell through e-bay or does he have an online store as wellÉ

I did a test lather yesterday, and it seems to perform well. For the price, I couldn't say no ($29 USD).
Here's some test pics. I whipped up a test lather last night.
The hot water comes out of my tap at approximately 120f. The bowl and chamber were both filled and left for 5 minutes, emptied and the chamber was filled again, regular tap water both times. I loaded the brush for 10 seconds with proraso green, and whipped the lather. The lather only pic is from about 30 seconds of swirling. The final pic is about 45-50 seconds of swirling and whipping. I left the lid on without interruption to see when the suds would begin to break down. At the seven minute mark, they began to disappear.
I'll be doing another test this afternoon while shaving, same setup, but with a thermometer, just to see what temp the suds reach.
That looks great and I agree the color is nice, gives it an antique feel. It looks like it worked out great for you. Ugh. I wish I had more space.
Thats very nice, the glaze on it is a floating blue its one of my favorite glazes.
Yup, it looks good, performs well...what more can I ask for. I think it's great. That first shave where I put hot lather on my face was a very different feeling!

Wow, that's one fine looking scuttle. I have a fealing its going to be hard catch one before it sells after you put those pics on here, but I'll have to try.
You can also contact Robert and he will email you an order sheet from which you can pick style and glaze. I did that and am not so patiently waiting.

Have been messaging Robert about when he'd have more shaving mug/brush earners available, he said next week. To make a long story short, I have one ordered in leaf green and black.

Mine arrived yesterday (after I had shaved, of course). I used it for the first time this morning, and man I'm lovin' the lather. That thing is huge, probably would hold enough lather to do a 2 pass shave on my entire body, lol, and I bet it would stay warm long enough to finish the job, too.
Seriously though, I enjoyed a 3-pass shave, with luxuriously warm lather throughout. It is a very practical design, beautifully executed, that performs the task as well as I had hoped that it would.
My son has recently expressed an interest in learning to shave with a straight razor, so I am starting to put together a kit with some of my favorite products/accessories for him. One of these will definitely be included.
But not this one.....It's MINE!;)
What a beautiful scuttle. Thank you for posting this as I had not heard of him either until seeing this. I have a standard large scuttle in black coming from him in a few weeks. I cannot wait to play with it!

it arrived today, haven't tried it out yet, but these are HUGE. I think it will definitely work out quite nicely. Here's mine:

yeah, it took me back when I saw it lol. It oughta hold plenty of hot water for shaving though, and can't complain about quality either. Roughly 40 for a hand-thrown custom scuttle, that large, is not bad.Quote:

you're correct. I went back to the store to verify and it states that he "pours" his own greenware. So it would be slip-cast. Either way, for a scuttle that large 40 isn't bad.Quote:

Tried mine out this morning. I tried hot water from the tap, but our water heater needs to be turned up, so I heated the water in an old percolator coffee pot(just to where it started steaming, not boiling). After getting the water just right I whipped up some lather with TGQ Cavendish Black. Wow! Talk about nice warm lather throughout the entire shave, I almost hated to stop shaving after the third pass!
