    Default Cost Plus Brush Scuttle

I know this has been discussed before, but I searched for an old thread and couldn't find one. My point is that I bought and used one very recently and wanted to add my thoughts. These items seem to be available online now (I don't think they were a few months ago...), and they are currently available in Cost Plus World Markets for $7.99.

Some before me have hoped to use this as a smaller lathering cup/bowl, but I can assure you it's too small for this use. As a brush scuttle however it is superb.

I've never realized the added comfort of grabbing your loaded brush and applying lather for the second pass and discovering the lather is warmer than you've ever experienced before. That's what it was like to use this thing this morning, and I find it well worth the small hassle of heating and filling with hot water. The size and shape of the inner bowl seemed perfectly suited for my mid-sized Simpson Duke, contacting the brush all the way around without pushing any lather where I didn't want it. The instructions say to use "boiling" water to fill it, so I don't thermal breakage is a concern with this "scuttle." I don't know how long the cork will last, but for the price I'm not complaining; they did have a 6-pack of same-sized corks in the same area of the store for $1.99 if you were concerned. One could also just whittle down a wine cork for a replacement plug.

I did three passes this morning, and after remembering to plonk my brush face-down in the bowl instead of handle-down on the counter I was rewarded with steamy-hot lather. I think that this is a perfect option for someone who face lathers and has never used a brush scuttle before. For $8 bucks. And it looks clean and stylish on the counter. Pic is from their website...

I wonder what percentage of their "Warming Pitcher" sales are to wet shavers? Also, Now that I quickly realize I NEED to use a brush scuttle every shave, I look forward to maybe something a little more handmade in the future...(D-Bird, R.Becker, etc.)
