There's got to be a way to take them apart and sharpen them, right? I see these at local flea markets all the time but have yet to muster the courage. I don't wear a goatee but have electric (the cordless chargeable Wahl) clippers that I sometimes use on my spud before the Sunday Spud shave. It also has a narrower head that is handy for ear and nose hair. If I could figure out how to make the old manual variety sharp, I'd probably be quite keen to pick one up.
I have worn the goatee most of my life. I must say that that template is one of the funniest things I've ever seen, I would actually pay to see somebody use it, also I think I may have bought every trimmer that I've seen. One of the best. I had may have been the same Norelco that was mentioned earlier, although the batteries won't take a charge anymore. It also came with a little battery powered one that works great, although last year for Christmas I got the whal lithium-ion trimmer. I must say that one is spectacular. Comes with several different heads and an adjustable comb it seems to work very well. But for general shaping. I still use a thin straightedge trimmers are used just for length. I also have a pair of those manual clippers that must've been my father's or grandfathers and yes they do hurt. I guess they have to be very sharp. YMMV.
