Been there--Done that!
I believe it was the television celebrity chef Jeff Smith (The Frugal Gourmet) who said "The key to creative cooking is to omit and substitute."

Works fer me!!
This is why I like Christmas dinner so much better than Thanksgiving. Way more variety and I love seeing what people come up with.:chapeau
Sorry but I don't have any pics of my Christmas Dinner. A wrench or two tossed into the works made things interesting so it was a bit late and afterward I sent 99.9% of everything home with the kids.
I do have the scraps and bones from my home cured and smoked picnic ham cooking into ham stock. I love the All American 921--Thanks Benz! :bow :tu
I'm still working on my Christmas Dinner...
7 pounds of Fruitcake.
Attachment 314616
I started out with 10 pounds last week.
"Folks, there is no recipe for fruitcake in this cookbook, because I don't think anybody really bakes them. I think people get them in the mail, keep them awhile, and then send them to on to somebody else. Actually, there are only about 28 fruitcakes in the whole country. People just keep sending them back and forth to each other. So if you want a fruitcake, just wait till somebody mails you one, open it and eat it, but I can't be responsible for the consequences. You may be breaking up a whole chain of events. You are on your own!"
Quote from Dom DeLuise in his cookbook titled 'EAT THIS.. It'll Make You Feel Better'.
I freely admit that I am a fruitcake lover. I also like stollen, pannetone and mincemeat old and new styles.I have medieval tastes. You know that scene in LOTR where Gimli talks about malt beer and red meat off the bone....Droool !:medvl:
