The Mongolian milk tea isn't that salty, it tastes like broth or soup more than tea, but I have found that without salt it doesn't taste good. Like porridge without salt tastes a bit off, if you know what I mean.

So essentialy then having tea in Mongolia is like having a meal ? Interesting !
There are two things I would like to achieve befor I leave this planet, it involves going to Russia of course. One is to spend time on the Trans Siberian train and drinking tea of course.

Mongolian tea is drunk like tea. You are offered it whenever you enter a home.
It could be beefed up to a meal though. Dumplings could be boiled in it or you add cold cuts of meat and or clotted cream to it. If you are really lucky you might get thin slices of steamed sheep tail fat.
You now have my attention ha ha....I like dumplings and ......fat !
